According to statistics, if your website is not listed on page one of a search engine then you have, at most, a one per cent chance of getting your site viewed. Adverts, pop ups and even pay per clicks all have their place but it would seems trends still show more trust in the organic results of an internet search engine. Type in a key phrase of whatever it is you are looking for and Google will do its stuff, listing the most relevant pages first. This said, it shows how important it is to get listed on page one of as many search engines as possible.

There are definitely some small things you can do that have large impacts on your search engine ranking; however, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is probably the best way to generate traffic. SEO is a process of choosing appropriate and targeted keyword phrases that are related to your website, and ensuring that these keyword phrases achieve high organic listings in search engines.

All you need to do is make sure that the keywords you are targeting are in your title tag, description, h1 tags, and sprinkled throughout the text of your website. These keywords will need to be the most common words used in your article. Use them in page titles, URL of page, outbound links, heading tags, image alt tags, and in the general throughout the text of your post, especially early on in the first few sentence and in meta tags. Perhaps the meta description tag is the most important tag among the meta tags since it is supported by Google and other popular searches. Emphasize the keywords with bigger font, bold and header tags when applicable. This is the best known way to encourage major search engines such as Google, Yahoo and MSN to list optimized sites to full effect.

Picking and targeting the right keywords is crucial. High ranking in organic listings of major search engines will drives more targeted and eager traffic to your website when people search for the keywords that you have optimized. A unique page is then created for each tag, and these pages are what the search engines will later index to identify the relevancy of a site in any particular search.

To pick the correct keywords, first put yourself in the user's perspective. Do surveys and research to find out what customers call your products and services. Ask yourself as to how you want people to find this post in Search Engines, or what they will type into Google if they want information on the topic you’re writing. The answer to these questions will give you a hint as to what words you’ll want to see repeated throughout your article a number of times.

Keyword Analysis is important for SEO and search engine optimizers will have their own set of tools to carry out key word research on the internet, showing them the way when it comes to the most searched for terms in each particular business sector.

In the context of SEO, keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. Keyword density is the measurement in percentage, the number of times a keyword or phrase appears compared to the total number of words in a page.

Stuff many keywords onto the site in the bid to increase traffic from keyword searches. Keyword density can be important in climbing the search engine rankings; however, more important is that your content and design are user friendly and helpful to readers. Do not become obsessed by SEO because it will sacrifice your reader satisfaction. There is nothing worse than a site that is stuffed with too many keywords. These sites come off as cheap, nasty and spammy.

Moreover, current Search Engines are intelligent enough to detect such practices. As the quote from wikipedia says, search engines implement many different ways to measure relevancy. Keyword density is but just one of them. You must be careful to place these keywords strategically; otherwise, you may get penalized by search engines and lose your chance to achieve good organic ranking.

Striking the right balance is just part of what SEO companies do so well. Try to focus on your content first, and then once it fits what you have written, you can tweak it to include the keywords you are targeting. Most SEO experts recommend getting your keyword density up to between 5-20%.
