A lot of people easily become frustrated when their attempts at telephone marketing is not fruitful in their prospecting efforts or in sponsoring more reps. In trying to reach out to your prospects with the telephone it is important that you learn proper phone skills and the common pitfalls to avoid. Also note that research and experience shows that prospects usually convert to a sale after an average of 3 calls, so do not give up after the first few calls. Some people need more persuasion than others.

Basic call tips include that your call should be polite, respectful, friendly, warm, provide efficient customer service. In the network marketing industry make sure the prospect shows value to you first before you waste your time on them.. If you have a downline, make sure you train them and listen to their calls to make sure that they have proper call manners. You can tape their calls and have them listen to it.

Proper phone skills involves the way you handle your marketing calls when you are prospecting and the way you or your sales team handle incoming calls from people who call you. With the amount of effort and resources spent into getting people to contact you about your business or for information it will be unproductive to waste the prospect with bad phone skills. You should develop an exceptional way of treatment for your callers but also make sure you keep control of the call. You are the Alpha, the leader, the one who has the goods.

Make sure you convey that with confidence in your voice, but don't be arrogant. They should not be made to feel like just another caller or as a bearable distraction or you may be well be losing your best possible prospects.

To get the best from telephone marketing when prospecting or sponsoring more reps you need to develop the following etiquettes to help improve your phone skills.

1. When on the phone it is important to speak clear with an even tone. You should not sound too anxious or short of breath as the receiver will notice that you lack self confidence.

2. It is always important to identify yourself from the start. Do not assume that the receiver knows you. Identify yourself before you proceed with the conversation.

3. It helps to politely ask for the identity of the other party so that you do not reveal confidential information to the wrong person.

4. Tailor your call to suit the receiver and circumstance. If the receiver is driving and distracted it is wise to call at a later time. If the receiver is receptive, request for a few minutes of their time and then go straight to providing information on the important features of what you have to offer.

5. Always make sure that you are focused on your call. Do not make or receive calls in environments where you are or can easily be distracted. Do not abruptly cut calls to pick up another call. If you must interrupt a call or cut it short maybe due to low battery always inform the other party.

6. Keep records of your calls, noting major points raised ( married, job, what they do for fun, etc) and likely prospects that you will like to do business with. Also try to keep promises to call back at scheduled times.
