The frame of a standard daybed is comprised of two arms and a back, imitating the basic structure of a sofa. Though, you can also find ones that mimic standard bed styles such as the sleigh, the chaise and the canopy. For a truly comfy daybed, you should opt for one that has upholstered headboards and footboards. These can be very functional as some also come in a trundle bed design where the daybed has a smaller, inner bed that can be rolled out when you need extra sleeping space.

There are two varieties of the trundle style daybed, the pop-up trundle and pull-out trundle. A pop-up trundle has a built-in link spring that can be used with a standard bed conveniently stored underneath the daybed. When needed, it can be rolled out and elevated to same height as the daybed, converting it into a standard king size sleeping area, or two twin beds. A pull-out trundle is similar but does not elevate. It is pulled out from beneath the daybed like a drawer or is freestanding and rolled out from beneath the daybed on wheels.

Daybeds can be upholstered in different fabrics according to your preferences and décor. Leather is a good option when you are aiming for a classic look. Linen and cotton mix fabrics in neutral colors can create a contemporary look. To bring out the best in your daybed, you can add decorative pillows. Decorative pillows in vibrant colors or in metallic shades like gold or copper look rich. Pair them with daybeds upholstered in muted colors with other decorative pillows in bold geometric prints and patterns.
