Anyone who has spent time flying has a true understanding of the difference between a first class flight and coach. First class passengers get wine and champagne. Coach passengers get soft drinks, juice and those little bottles of liquor. Guests seated in first class are treated to gourmet meals, while the people in coach are offered peanuts and sandwiches. What person in his or her right mind would choose coach over the elite seats? Yes, it is costly to fly that way, but you may find it is easier than you think to find a cheap first class flight.

Becoming a Frequent Flyer gives you a step up on the ladder to first class success. You will find that you are offered many perks through saving up your miles, one of them being offered free flight upgrades. This is the whole reason that many people join a club of this sort. It affords them the comfort they seek.
Things get even better for you once you become an elite Frequent Flyer. You need to ask your customer service representative if you qualify for any elite challenges to make you eligible for an upgrade to a first class flight. There may be some qualifications you have met and wouldn't know if you didn't ask. Not all airlines offer this, so you will need to ask about it.

If you are not on a tight schedule, you can always consider flying standby. It is usually inconvenient, but it does work a lot of the time. However, if you really need to be somewhere at a certain time, it isn't something you will want to attempt.

Patience plays a big part in getting a cheap first class flight. Keeping that in mind, always try to book well in advance of you departure date. It could be that booking early will net you a very good fare, as a lot of airlines offer packages for booking early.

It is a good practice to take some time and do your homework. Investigate your flights in order to know which is the best route and airline for you to use. Also consider being more open to your departure and arrival cities, as some cities are cheaper to fly into and out of than others. This could be the way you score that cheap first class flight.
