When it comes to giving corporate gifts to your employees, there is no wrong way to go, but there are better ways than others to present your gifts and to get the full benefit out of the gifts and out of the giving. Corporate gifts can be given for all kinds of events, from anniversaries with the company to retirement and more, including personal milestones like the birth of a child or an impending wedding.

When it comes to giving these corporate gifts, however, the presentation of the gifts is just as important as the gift itself to get the maximum benefit out of your money and time. Simply handing the gift to a person might work well for something like a corporate gift for a soon-to-be parent, for example. This is because not everyone in the company will be working toward the same goal, nor is it an achievement that everyone is striving for or even can strive for. A personal congratulations and a personal gift are perfect for a personal celebration that is not shared by everyone.

The same goes for the presentation of a congratulatory gift for an occasion like an engagement or the wedding of a company employee, since this, too, is something that not everyone can or even would want to share in. Employees who are already married might feel slighted by this if the presentation were more public, and those who are not in a position to marry right now might feel resentful and left out. The same private congratulations and thank you, or even a gift delivered to their home or a card with a gift certificate might be more appropriate then a company party.

Having a company party for other reasons, however, is fully acceptable as long as the reasons have something to do with business or with accomplishments within the company. Celebrating a five or ten year anniversary of working with the company, a promotion, or a retirement with a company party, for example, is the perfect way to present a gift to the honored person and at the same time encourage other employees to reach for the same milestone or merit. Morale can skyrocket with the right celebration and reward for a hard working employee, and your other workers will be encouraged to work that much harder to achieve the same milestones or rewards.

Presenting the gift at the right time and in the right way is just as important as choosing the right gift to honor your employees and to thank them for their hard work and service on your company’s behalf. Just as you would not buy a cheap gift that dismisses the worth of your employees, neither should you cheapen the giving of a milestone within the company by hiding the gift away and giving it in secret – especially when the benefits of making an event of it are so many. Not only with the employee being honored feel that much more honored if they are raised up in front of their peers, those other employees will also be raised up in a way and encouraged to seek the rewards of success.
