How to Overcome Depression |

There are no real best treatments for depression, no one medication, there isn't one type of psychotherapy, nor even one set of exercises will help rid you of your depression. |

There are a variety of different treatments for depression; again whether these best treatments for depression are effective depends largely on the individual and how they respond:
1. Antidepressants - there are many drugs on the market today which are used to help with depression. The thing to remember is that drugs do not treat the depression, they don't get down to the underlying issues as to why you were hit with depression in the first place, and they still need to be addressed. What the medications do, do is treat the symptoms of the depression.
2. The Psychotherapy - Also referred to as "talk therapy" and it involves a therapist and together you work through your depression causes through talking about your various issues. Many people find that just being able to talk about what they feel lifts the weight and with it brings some relief. Psychotherapy has a variety of different forms:
a. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - where you work with a therapist and first identify and then change your thoughts and behaviors. If you are depressed then you think negatively and with this form of therapy you learn to recognize those negative thoughts and then work through completely changing them.
b. Interpersonal therapy - looks at how depression can be connected to troubled emotional relationships
c. Psychodynamic therapy - it links depression to traumas and/or conflicts which occurred earlier in life, especially during childhood.
d. The Group therapy - in a group along with a therapist present you share your problem and various issues with others who suffer from depression as well in past and overcome it.
3. Herbal remedies - now our society is moving towards using natural herbs in a variety of different treatments, also depression included. Even though herbs are "natural" it doesn't necessarily mean they are safe. With anything there are some risks and it is best to talk about any sort of herbal alternative with your doctor.
