In the first section of this article we covered the main aspects of getting settling in after your move. Here we will offer more things for you to think about.

When you first enter your new home, introduce it to your kids by walking with them through the house to show them all the rooms. Doing so will help them get familiar with the place and can help to ease some of the concerns they may have. Remember that this is the first time your children have seen the new residence so to help them get a good impression of the home try to emphasize the some of the advantages to create a positive feeling in their minds. You could emphasize the new features such as a backyard, which would allow more room to play, or perhaps a room of their very own.

Another great way to get settled is to have a welcoming ceremony before your items are delivered, which will allow your children to get more familiar with the new home before it is full with your items again.

Have some family keepsakes for history by taking some family pictures as you just enter the new home and as you begin decorating it when your long distance movers deliver everything. Make a step-by-step settling in album by taking pictures of rooms as they are being furnished and decorated.

Your child’s bedroom is their space, and it’s going to be their place of comfort. Be sure to allow them some say in setting up and decorating their bedrooms.

Your younger children probably shouldn’t decorate their room alone, however, you can consult with them and try to decorate the room to fit their hobbies, and dreams. You can let your more mature children have more saying in this process. Give them the option of where to place their furniture and even the color or posters on the walls. If your budget will allow it and you are going to buy new furnishings, bring your kids along to help select some of the new furnishings for themselves.
