In the first section of this article we covered the attractions and advantages New York City has to offer to you and your children. Now, in this article, we will cover the disadvantages you should consider before calling up your long distance movers.

School System
While the educational system in New York City is generally good, and has some of the best public schools, something to consider is the daily commute. In order to attend a good school, your kid might have to commute long distances every day. If they aren’t admitted to the school, you may have to look at a private school, which can be very expensive. Another possible disadvantage of the New York City educational system is the competition, which can put a lot of pressure on children to have high test scores.

The NYC Environment
As you already know, New York City is very crowded and loud. For children who grew up in a cleaner environment, the air pollution can be a bit of an adjustment. It is especially important to reconsider your decision of moving to New York City if your kids suffer from Asthma or any other lung conditions.

The sanitation services in New York City are generally decent, and the city streets are reasonably clean. When the sanitation goes on strike, which has happened a few times in the past, the city becomes dirty, and odors can become very foul. Generally, you won’t have to worry about this.

Cost of Living
The big apple is known to be one of the most costly cities in the United States. Some of the most common expenses are transportation, food, and housing. An additional expense you may want to do further research on is the cost of sponsoring your child’s after school activities.

Climate
If you are moving from California, the weather conditions in New York City will most likely be added to your disadvantages list. In the winter months, the temperatures may drop below twenty degrees and snow covers the city, sometimes even preventing people from leaving their homes. In the few months that people enjoy summer, the humidity levels make it very sweaty. Again, if you are moving from California, this can be a very challenging lifestyle adjustment to make for you and your children.
