School System
While the educational system in New York City is generally good, and has some of the best public schools, something to consider is the daily commute. In order to attend a good school, your kid might have to commute long distances every day. If they aren’t admitted to the school, you may have to look at a private school, which can be very expensive. Another possible disadvantage of the New York City educational system is the competition, which can put a lot of pressure on children to have high test scores.

The NYC Environment
As you already know, New York City is very crowded and loud. For children who grew up in a cleaner environment, the air pollution can be a bit of an adjustment. It is especially important to reconsider your decision of moving to New York City if your kids suffer from Asthma or any other lung conditions.

In the few months that people enjoy summer, the humidity levels make it very sweaty. Again, if you are moving from California, this can be a very challenging lifestyle adjustment to make for you and your children.
