How to Move Green – Cleaning

Green Clean
When all your items have been loaded onto the moving truck and have been shipped, it is time to give your house a final clean. The first thing is to gather all leftover items and debris that need to be thrown out.
When gathering the debris, you may find many different types of materials, some of which can be recycled. There may be, for example, some of your leftover boxes that the movers did not utilize. These leftover boxes and other recyclable materials should be taken to a recycling center.
You moving company is prohibited by law from shipping hazardous materials such as paint, drain cleaner, batteries, antifreeze, gasoline, motor oil, pool chemicals, rodent spray, etc., so you will need to dispose of these materials in a safe manner. Call the local collection facility to find out what the requirements are for proper disposal.
After the leftover debris has been recycled or properly disposed of, you may want to give your home a nice clean. To reduce your impact, utilize cleaning products such as Simple Green that are non-toxic and biodegradable.
If you movers left some accidental marks on your walls, you can usually removet them with a cellulose sponge and some soap and warm water. Be careful, however, not to get drywall too wet as it can absorb water and crack.
If cleaning your house after a long moving day doesn’t sound that fun, you can always hire a cleaning service to give your house a final cleaning. Careful not to schedule the cleaners on the same day of your move, as some moves may take a little longer than planned.
The Final Check
After the house is nice and clean, give it one last walkthrough to make sure nothing has been left behind. Be sure to look in the nooks and crannies of the attic, closets, and basement, as some items can easily get lost there.
