Hard Selling
You are competing with so many ads that have been out in the market for a long time. You are new. But you must not be beaten. Take it as an advantage instead.
You haven’t used up all the available tricks in the book. And you still have so many ways to go. You just need to know how to go about the world of advertising.
The first no-no is hard selling. Just imagine yourself as the consumer. You are getting hoards of ads at your mail every day. For postcards, you are getting all kinds. They come in custom sizes and shapes. The color combinations vary from mellow to punk to rock. The first thing that you do then as you get those cards is to throw a bunch.
What are the qualities of the cards that would most often end up in trash? They all are getting their point across through hard selling.
Exclamation Marks
Yes, the book says that you have to make your advertisements loud. You have to make them shout. You have to capture people’s attention. And you have to make your ads heard loud and clear.
But why aren’t these statements as exciting as they promise to be? These persuasive and call to action statements are quite cliché. You need to say want you want your consumers to do in a refreshing way.
1. Buy now!
There are other ways to entice customers into buying your products. One way is by being more specific. Instead of simply stating “Buy Now!” why not the following: “Red Tags at 50% Off- Buy Now!” or “Buy Now and Get Free Products Worth $20!”
2. We can get you a loan!
Before you can use this line, have the initiative to get people’s trust. You also have to appeal to their interests such a business or personal investments. In this manner, they’d be able to think about their goals.
Similar to the last one, it helps to more specific while appealing to their dreams or desires. “Get the House You Want Today – We can Get You That Loan!” or “Own a Car in 3 Days – We can get you a loan!”
3. This is the best!
This one is a bit problematic since everyone claims that they are the best. Besides, you cannot use something like this if you don’t have a lot of evidence to back up your claims. To make your audience a believer, make your claim more valid.
“This is the best as tried and tested by 1,000,000 Americans!” or “This is the best product for you as recognized worldwide!”
Hence, it is all about knowing where their interests lie. Your postcards design must answer a query on your consumers’ minds. Through this, it will be easier for them to decide that availing your products and services is the right thing for them to do.
