In case, there are any spots or marks on the tree stand, Christmas tree skirts act as a neat camouflage. Include tree skirts in your Christmas decorations to complete the festive look.

In order to make Christmas tree skirts, you can start with four yards of 45-inch-wide velvet, felt or any material with holiday prints to go well with the other decorations on your Christmas tree, as well as with the other Christmas decorations. Here’s a tip — to make your Christmas tree skirts attractive, choose a brightly-colored, lush fabric, or one that has shiny metallic thread accents.

Cut the 4-yard length of fabric in half, which will leave you with two rectangular pieces of fabric, each being two yards long. Pin the right sides of the fabric together and sew a 36-inch seam along a 2-yard edge of the fabric. The portion of the seam that has not been sewn will become the opening of the tree skirt.

Now, fold the fabric in half lengthwise, at the point where the seam that was made initially ends; that will result in a four-layer thick rectangle. Then, place either ends of a yardstick at the top, seamed corner of the folded fabric, and use the yardstick to make a circular mark along the raw edges of the fabric that extends 36 inches from the top; cut along the marked line. Now, make one more circular mark that extends merely 3 inches around the upper seamed corner of the folded fabric. This will be for the center opening of the skirt; cut along the marked lines.

Next, carefully finish the cut edges of the skirt fabric. Then, apply decorative trim like lace, fringe or fake fur to the edges of the tree skirt. Doing this helps in two ways — it not only adds a special touch to the skirt but also hides the finishing on the edges. Finally, drape the finished skirt around the base of the tree and tree stand, with the cut edge at the back.
These Christmas tree skirts are ideal for average-sized Christmas trees. Do make one keeping in mind the size of your tree stand and the diameter of your tree.
