The most understandable benefit is that one does not have to mess around with a cord. At times it can be difficult to find an empty plug base to hook your power tool to.
With a cordless tool, you can move around easily and can do a fantastic work with cords tangling, cords getting wrapped up in equipment and the plug being puller from the socket continuously .
However, the worst thing about cordless power tools is that they need to be maintained properly. Like you need to ensure that the battery is charged before use. Unless you plan in advance, you run the risk of delaying your home fix it plans with flat batteries!
That said; we must again bear in mind that power tools hold the key to a successful building project.
If these power tools get looked after, they can last a long time and do the job well.
Though each of the power tools is different, they need almost a similar maintenance schedule. Also, always follow the maintenance instructions provided by the manufacturer.
So, if the question ‘How to look after your power tools’ arises, follow these basic tips:
1 Inspect your tools once you complete your task. Ensure that the power cord of the charger has no exposed wires and the pocket is free from debris and dust, this would stop a decent connection when charging.
2 Clean the tools every time you use them. Use proper materials to clean your tools. In most of the cases, you can simply brush or blow the dust off the tool. If a blade of the tool has gunk on it, use a cleaning product and a cloth. Remember to thoroughly clean off the product once you are through in case it is flammable.
3 Lubricate all movable parts. Ensure that each of the parts was moving smoothly. Wipe off the excess oil after oiling the tool. Some tools have a special oil for the chucks and spindles to apply to ensure they are lubricated.
4 Use sharp and new cutting tools(drill bits and blades). If needed sharpen the bits and blades as required using proper grinders, files and sharpening stones. Remember, only a dull blade injures the user, so keep them clean and new. If you cannot sharpen them, consult a professional. You will save a lot of money in the long run with new cutting bits that require far less cutting force.
5 make sure that your power tools are stored properly. Most tools come with a hard case for storage however also make sure they are not left in damp conditions. A separate cabinet or storage locker is ideal. Also, ensure that the power tools are kept in an environment, which is clean and dust free, dust in the electrical component causes premature wear.
