When you first notice some hair loss, go and see your doctor, he/she will be able to diagnose any underlying problems and if there are any, will implement a treatment programme. Make sure you keep in contact with your doctor while having any treatment so that you can both monitor any progress and whether the treatment is in fact effective.
If you need some temporary coverage there are some good modern wigs available. Do not be put off by the old image of wigs, as the quality is a lot better now and they can actually look quite realistic. Of course this is not an ideal solution, but for a temporary problem this should be fine. Other temporary solutions include hats or other types of headwear.

Most importantly make sure that you don't let hair loss ruin your life. It may only be a temporary thing, and could grow back at the start of your next natural growth cycle. Try not to dwell on your condition too much as this could well hinder the recovery progress, and could cause you to become depressed and sorrowful. A couple of positive steps are to make sure you have a healthy balanced diet and look after the hair you have left.
There are much more serious medical conditions that people have to suffer, so it really is not the end of the world if you lose your hair. Try to retain your confidence in your abilities and concentrate on this rather than your appearance, as, when all said and done it isn't really that important. Worse things happen at sea.
