Cleaning your wetsuit
* As soon as possible after use, you need to rinse the wetsuit with tap water, removing any sand and debris. Many beaches have outdoor showers which can be used for this purpose.
* When you get home you can give the wetsuit a more thorough wash using warm water (not hot) in a bath to remove as much of the salt water as possible. Don't use hot water, because hot water causes the neoprene rubber material loses some of its flexibility.
* The wetsuit should not be cleaned in a washing machine or dried using a dryer, as the material is likely to degrade or tear as a result.
* To remove stains and odour, use a specialist wetsuit shampoo from your local wetsuit centre. Don’t use ordinary soap products, washing power or other cleaning chemicals when washing a wetsuit, because they won't be up to the task and may damage the material.
* Once your wetsuit is washed, wring out as much excess water as you can and hang the suit inside-out to dry completely. Hang the suit away from direct sunlight otherwise the material will crack. If you are going to need the wetsuit again straight away, you can speed-dry it by wrapping it in a towel and wringing it dry as best you can.
* When storing the wetsuit place it on a flat surface or use a wide coat hanger.
Don’t despair if you do happen to pick up a small tear in your wetsuit. Nowadays, effective wetsuit repair adhesive & sealant kits are widely available, and you will be able to pick one up from your local wetsuit centre. You should ideally look for a wetsuit repair kit that can be used on all neoprene or rubber products including wetsuits, gloves, boots and hoods. A good wetsuit centre will have experienced members of staff who can offer you all sorts of helpful advice and tips on wetsuit cleaning, repairs and maintenance.
