Some of the basic qualities to look for include:
• Trust Worthiness & effective Time Management
• Fall back Memory of events & people you deal with
• Maintain your Calender of events & meeting schedules
• Educated and organized
• People Manager and decision maker.

Assistance will differ depending upon the requirement of different industries and people. There are people who look for assistants for individual help, home, children, or for their organizations. Assistance can be domestic help; childcare; office assistance; secretarial; personal assistance and executive assistance to name some.

The person needs to be able to multi task and a well equipped resource often for an entire institution and may at times need to propose decisions in the absence of their manager.

Trust Worthiness & effective Time Management

The assistant will often be the only person in an organization who knows all about you. They will often know personal things that even your spouse doesn’t. In handling your confidential information any miscommunication or leak, may lead to serious repercussions. In fact the Assistant needs to be more cautious than their manager. The manager will always know exactly when they want information dealt with. Whereas the Assistant can often only estimate. A PA is usually the only one authorized to directly contact the manager, as the Assistant requires.

Fall back Memory of events & people you deal with

Good memory power is a required quality of a PA in order to keep up with meetings and schedules. Time Management is very important in this role. Patience is another quality in order to shield their manager from stress that would otherwise befall their manager.

Maintain your Calender of events & meeting schedules

A PA is recognized as a very responsible position from anyone outside an organization wanting to contact their manager. Meetings may be on phone, Teleconference, Web conference, email etc. The PA needs to know the schedules, people’s availability and act accordingly to maintain the time-frame.

Educated & Organized

This person needs to be well organized, have computer knowledge and have a good knowledge of the institution. The first impression is the best impression, hence the appearance of the PA should look professional, businesslike and upbeat.
Telephone and email etiquette play a role in organizing & coordinating other’s into the schedules.

People Manager & Decision Maker

The PA should be a good people Manager that can tackle difficult situations with clients or other co-workers with a feather touch. The PA should be a quick decision maker who should be balanced in making decisions, but at times may have to show a commanding presence.

Remuneration

They need to know the organizational values and strategies to act at any point of time and provide valuable input to solve issues. A person with the above qualifications, are not readily available and so can normally demand a substantial remuneration.
