At the same time, it should match the contours of your other living room furniture. The size of the stand should be appropriate to not only accommodate the television but other accessories like speakers, DVD player, amplifiers etc. to create a complete entertainment center.

There are many factors that you should consider before buying a stand. The size of your living room as well as the TV itself is an important factor and decides the required length and width of the TV stand. TV/component mounts are a good option as they are available in compact sizes and it is easy to update them with aftermarket accessories if you need to expand them.

At the same time, do not buy a very small stand for a big-sized living room as it would look tiny in comparison with your other living room furniture. The height of the TV stand should be just right so that it is in line with your eye level and spaced correctly from the other living room furniture like the seating. The lower part of the stand could have some storage compartments to accommodate crockery, glassware, electronic accessories etc. The side panels could be decorative glass enclosures to display antiques. The rear of the stand should have enough perforations to allow passage of power cables and wires.

Most modern day TV stands come with inbuilt power sockets to give them a more organized look. Do not buy a stand which is too heavy but at the same time, choose furniture that is stabile and durable. Most TV stands would be made of either wood or metal. There are also other options like flat panel mounts, TV wall mounts and TV ceiling mounts that will take up less space and accommodate your TV. The other benefit of using a wall/ceiling mount is to allow for tilt angling that can help you place your TV over the fireplace mantel or bookshelves.
