It starts out with a picture of a person who is over weight, then comes the emotional story of gaining weight, the frustration, shame, loneliness and years yo-yo dieting. Then the story reaches a crossroads, they turned it all around once they applied this wonderful new weight loss program. And that is what they are selling. They hook you with emotion, then help you justify your decision to purchase with logic. Bam! They got you!

Did the weight loss program work? Was it right for you? Or did you get hooked into an emotional purchase that really wasn’t a good fit for you? It happens all the time, in fact, this process is repeated so often it has become a science. The people writing the sales pages for these weight loss programs know what you will respond to because they’ve tested it out over and over again.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that all of these online weight loss programs are ineffective, quite the contrary. As a matter of fact, most of them have varying degree of merit, and unique approaches to weight loss. What you should consider when evaluating these weight loss programs is leaving the emotion out of your decision and look at the basic facts and strategies they suggest.

Here are 3 simple guidelines to keep in mind:

1) Frame of mind

The perfect time to evaluate these emotional sales pages is to do when you are in a good frame of mind. All success starts with a decision. The power behind that decision is the WHY. What is the reason for your decision? Once you get really clear about your goal, the power of why you are reaching for it will bring about the results you desire.

The worst time to do research is when you’ve just binged on a gallon of ice cream or have just seen your ex-boyfriend with a hot new woman. If you’re feeling any guilt or self loathing, then first take care of your feelings. Be gentle with yourself and remember to treat yourself as if you were your best friend. No negative self talk!

2) Be clear and realistic about your goals

Before you start your research, decide exactly how much weight loss is right for you and then give yourself enough time to get there. Be specific, because again, if you have a specific goal, your mind will automatically look for ways to make that happen. Then, when you are looking for a weigh loss program, you will be able to find one that fits with that goal.

3) Sleep on it

Don’t get sucked in by the emotional writing of the sales pages! Once you find a weight loss program that appeals to you, sleep on it. Give the idea time to solidify in your mind. As you go about your daily routine, think about the claims and program regiment. Will you be able to commit to it? Does it fit for you? If you answer yes to these questions, chances are you will be able to make an intelligent decision and achieve your weight loss goals.

Whatever your motivation is, just know that your goals are absolutely possible. By looking at the facts and information of weight loss programs without getting emotional, you will greatly increase your chances of choosing a program that will work for you.
