1. Special holiday fonts.
The easiest thing you can do to make your color posters more festive is to use special holiday fonts. Do not worry; you do not need to pay for fonts. There are plenty of free fonts available on the Internet. Just do a Google search for “holiday fonts” and “free” and you will have thousands of results to choose from.
Just download the font files you think you want and then save them to your font folder in your computer. If you do not know here it is, just go to the C:\windows\fonts\ location using windows explorer and you should see where it is. Once you copy your fonts there, almost all software applications can use your downloaded holiday fonts. Use them to create your nice custom poster with a holiday twist.
2. Using symbols from the Internet.
Now, besides fonts, you can also actually use symbols from the Internet. Any kind of holiday symbolic image from a Snowflake, Santa Claus, Christmas Trees etc. etc. can easily be downloaded from the Internet. To be sure that you will be using something that is royalty free, you can try using Flickr, or OpenPhoto to get the holiday images that you want. Just search for and copy the images from your browser and then paste them into your color poster design. You can then easily manipulate it to add that festive effect to your design.
3. Looking for special brushes in Photoshop.
If you are familiar with special image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop you can also try to look for special brushes. Yes, you can actually download or buy some extra special brushes in design software to brush on or spray nice festive effects on your color poster design. This can be something as simple as those snowflake brushes, or it can be as complex as red and green sparkles or even stars. Just try searching the Net for special brushes and you will find lots of recommendations on what you can use for this holiday season.
4. Using color effects.
Finally, if you want something short and simple, you can just try using simple color effects. The easiest color effect that you can do is the gradient background. Using two colors such as red and green and using the gradient effect, should give you a nice festive background to work with on your color poster. Most design software should be able to do this. Of course, you can play with other colors if you want to be a little bit more creative with your designs.
So there you have it, four simple festive design ideas that should make your poster printing ready for the holidays.
