Music has profoundly affected us since the beginning of man. Our brains decide for us what music we respond to most. As we go about our lives we listen to this music and unknowingly place bookmarks on certain songs and the related memories. We may not think some memories are memorable, but years later we hear that song and amazingly every detail comes back.
Unfortunately, we can't pick and choose the memories to bookmark. Our saddest, most painful memories as well as our greatest memories are tagged and filed away.
Movies tend to bring up deep emotions we've gone through and thought were buried and forgotten. That's why the toughest guy can watch a movie, relate to it in a sad way, and suddenly tear up. ( he might claim he's got something in his eye trying to cover it up!)
I, personally, am a movie buff, but I'm a hard sell. It seems like movies are running out of ideas and are in the 're-make' business. Or, they are filming endless series that should have stopped already! There are very few films that are original and truly entertaining. That's why when I see a great movie, I rave about it.
"Pan's Labyrinth" is the most outstanding movie I've ever seen. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, this is a mind blowing fantasy for adults. It's the story about Ophelia, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer in the fasciast Spain of 1944. She creates an eerie, but captivating fantasy world to escape the harsh reality. There are subtitles, but it adds style to the movie. Warning!!! This is an adult fantasy, violence, no nudity. NOT FOR CHILDREN!
Ophelia's plight touched me on my deepest levels, and she stays in my heart everyday.
I also enjoy a variety of movies from Comedy to Drama. I even enjoy Science Fiction. I especially love Stephen King movies. I've been accused of being a little warped, but who isn't! At least I admit it!
Remember, your brain attracts you to what ever type of movies or music you enjoy. Love what you naturally respond to because you really can't change it! You're only lying to yourself! Rock on!
