How can you find customers for webhosting?

If you operate webhosting, you probably know that webhosting profitability depends on the number of the websites in operation, in other words, on the number of paying clients. The more clients, the higher profit for your project.

Actually, the webhosting operation itself is not very complicated. You do not need huge investments to start a webhosting company, either.

On the other hand, besides your own server you need technical support and satisfactory connectivity. To do so, you can use the service called serverhousing.

Let's say that you have 100 thousand crowns and you need to start your webhosting. You will purchase a server for 40 thousand; then, you will spend some 3 000 crowns a month for connecting it in the backbone network via the serverhousing service; the rest of the amount, some 50 thousand crowns, should be kept for administrator's salary. Now, you have just two months to make a profit - otherwise you are a loser.

What should you do?

If I were in your shoes, I would make effort to offer something that the other hosting companies do not provide. Fortunately, most of webhosting companies in this country are not able to offer multihosting and they do not allow operating more domains under one account and for only one monthly lump sum. Hence, your situation is somehow easier and you can offer this service to your clients.

Now, how can you attract clients if you do not have any money for advertising ?

First, I would try out discussion forums (for example, Webtrh.cz, Jakpsatweb.cz). I would attach the link to my hosting to my signature. Speaking about the webmarket, I would not hesitate to present the service somehow formally. I am quite sure you can find a couple of clients in this way.

Then, I would try out comments at frequently visited blogs (for example, podnikanivusa.com, 404m.com and ahyde.blog.cz). Here, you should be rather careful. Avoid stupid comments, such as "nice blog, super opinion, etc." Comment briefly and accurately, and add the link to your webhosting project to your signature.

Third, I would try out promo articles. Write a couple of promo articles and publish them on websites that provide this service for free (for example, clankyzdarma.cz, webclanky.cz, seoclanky.cz, prclanek.net, etc.) In addition, I would recommend pressweb.cz and pressportal.cz because the websites distribute the articles to news providers. Your article may attract their attention and they will write about it.

You can contact specialist magazines and press. Just sit and write a letter to the editor or call them and invite the editor for a lunch in nearest KFC. Perhaps he/she decides to interview you and writes an article about your services.

Just try it - and share your experience through comments.

Virtual server for online game websites

Everybody who successfully operates an online game website, soon or later has to face the problem - where. What happens? Normally, after some time your webhosting provider will send you away because online game websites need a big share of the server hardware capacity and - being visited by many people (several thousands a day), the server becomes slower and slower, which is, of course, unacceptable for the webhosting providers. They will offer you a virtual server or they disconnect you (my own experience, I was disconnected without any warning for 2 days because of 10 000 visitors every day). This is not the way to go.

Therefore, the best solution, in regard to satisfactory capacity for operation of your online game website, is the virtual server. If you decide to build up an online game website of quality, available for many visitors, you should use the virtual server from the very beginning. This way, you avoid a lot of trouble with migration to another hosting and reinstallation in case that the provider of the webhosting services sends you away.

What does a virtual server mean?

A virtual server is something between standard webhosting and a dedicated server. As for the standard webhosting, your project runs on one server along with tens or hundreds of other websites, and you all use the same hardware sources at a time. In case of the virtual server, the server is divided in several separate parts (by means of a process called "virtualization") . The parts i.e. the virtual servers run independently on other virtual servers. The main advantage of this solution is the higher performance. What is more, if another virtual server fails, your VPS is not affected despite the fact that it runs on the same server. If something like that happens with the standard hosting, after the failure all web presentations operated on the same server stop working.
