Introverts can succeed in network marketing! Rob shares the 4 things that has helped him develop a growing part-time income in just 5 months, all without a personality...

I am an introvert. I haven’t always liked being an introvert…but I am one.

I work as an actuary. Actuaries are made fun of by accountants, because to them we have no personality.

One of my favorite jokes about my profession is: “how do you tell an introverted actuary from an extroverted one?” Answer: “An extroverted one looks at YOUR shoes while he talks to you.”

So, even though I am an introvert, I have always been fascinated with network marketing. Why? Perhaps it is the numbers. I was a math major…I absolutely love the ‘potential’ of compounding, leveraged income.

It has always drawn me to the network marketing industry.

The only problem, of course, is that I am just not good at persuading people, and I don’t like rejection…..never have. I am not so introverted that I don’t like talking to people. I am just not very good at persuading people. I do pretty well with it with the conversations I envision in my head – it’s just when I try to carry them out in real life. I seem to lose the passion and persuasiveness.

Well, I have finally found some success in network marketing. No, I am not rich, cruising around in a Bentley, and living the life of leisure. But, I am making close to an extra $2000 per month, part-time. To me, that’s not bad. Especially since I have only been at it for 5 months.

How did I do it? Here are a couple of keys that helped me:

1. I had something dramatic happen to me.

I have tried network marketing before (several times)…but I never really did anything with my ‘business’. So, eventually I gave up, and resigned that I was just destined for an introvert’s paycheck and nothing else.

Then, when I wasn’t even looking for a business, I found one. I was having trouble sleeping, so I decided to try a cleansing product I had read about. It was just what I needed. I not only began to sleep great, but I was able to shed 21 pounds in just 4 weeks. I was blown away. I didn’t have to muster up passion – I truly was passionate about what had happened with me. It was the first time I fell in love with a product, instead of in love with the numbers behind the compensation plan.

Not only was I passionate, and people could sense that…but because of my weight loss, people could see my results. I didn’t have to approach people. I signed up a handful of people who came up to me and asked me what I had done. That was fun!! Point is, you must be true to yourself (you know that deep down) and find a product you can be passionate about.

2. I used email effectively.

I saw how excited people got when they saw my results, so I decided to send my picture to people I knew via email. What a great marketing method for introverts. I didn’t have to call anyone unless they expressed an interest first. I could be very bold sending emails to intimidating people. There was so much less fear of rejection, because I didn’t have to hear any “no’s”. This really works well if you can have a before and after picture, but you can still use this method to introduce any type of dramatic product results you may experience…even if they are not visible.

3. I found a successful mentor who was also an introvert.

I was very fortunate in that I was personally sponsored by a guy who is very successful in our company (multiple six-figure income), and he is even more of an introvert than I am. This has helped me probably more than I know. I know I have said to myself many times, “man, if Alex can do it, I can do it”. Plus, I just trust his advice more, because I don’t feel like he is trying to ‘sell’ me – since that is just not his personality.

Find a successful introvert that you can learn from and receive encouragement from. This is critical in network marketing. As I have experienced, even with a growing group, it is easy to get discouraged. The ‘fallout rate’ is very high in network marketing, and this is something you just have to deal with while building your business, whether you are an introvert or an extrovert. You need someone you can trust to mentor you through these times.

4. I worked with the extroverts in the group.

We all have talents. I have spent a fair amount of my life wishing I was more extroverted, instead of using the talents I do have. The funny thing is, many extroverts wish they had some of the talents that introverts posess. Find some extroverts, and offer to work with them. They need help being organized. They can often lose focus, and need to be re-directed. They can sometimes be sloppy. Give them the speaking roles, but you use your gifts to help them. You are just as valuable.

Together, you can make an awesome team. And in network marketing, everyone on awesome team WINS!!
