Headaches can be mild and disappear within a short space of time, or they can last for hours whilst being dreadfully painful. |

There are three kinds of headaches:
Tension headaches
These are the most common headaches which cause a dull pain.
Vascular headaches
These headaches can be more intense and painful.
Organic headaches
These are less common, but pain becomes worse and can be accompanied by other symptoms such as vomiting, visual disturbances, speech problems etc.
There are various home remedies which can be very effective in alleviating the pain of a headache.
Eating 10 to 12 almonds is the equivalent of taking two aspirins, and Almonds are much less likely to upset the stomach.
Drinking a cup of Chamomile tea can help to alleviate a headache whilst calming your nerves in a natural way.
Ginkgo dilutes the blood vessels in the head which will in effect relieve a headache.
Feverfew contains a substance that inhibits the release of mood hormones in the brain. Feverfew can be taken freshly, as a tea or in capsule form.
Ginger is a spice which has been known to relieve headaches for a long period of time. It is an anti-inflammatory which contains pain relief substances.
Peppermint can be taken in two different ways. Either a peppermint tea, or mixed with a lotion and massaged into the temples.
Do not have a high daily intake of caffeine as this can cause headaches.
Do not chew gum, as the continuous chewing motion can tighten the muscles and cause tension which will result in a headache.
Applying a cold compress to the head can relieve headaches, as it helps to keep the blood flowing to the blood vessels.
Aromatherapy is a good pain relief for headache. Lavender oil has been proven to be very effective as a natural remedy for headache. Apply some lavender oil to your pressure points, temples, neck and wrists. The aroma has a calming effect which will soothe and act as a natural pain reliever.
Coconut mixed with sugar candy can help to relieve headache.
Mix together a paste of finely ground sandalwood, apply it to the forehead and allow it to dry. Once it has dried, rub it off with your hand and then rinse off completely with warm water.
If the headache is due to sinusistis, place 2 to 4 drops of cows butter in the nostrils for seven days, to relieve the pain.
If the headache is due to excessive heat, drink watermelon juice mixed with sugar to help alleviate the headache.
Massaging the head with Rosemary Oil can help to alleviate the pain of a headache.
Grape Juice is also beneficial for any type of headache.
For immediate pain relief, apply the past of 2 to 3 cloves directly to the forehead.
Any of the above home remedies for headaches can be tried. However, if symptoms persist, then it is advised to seek medical attention.
