Holi in Uttar Pradesh is boisterous due to joy and glee involved in it. This joviality comes from the Krishna Radha Love Play around which the celebration actually takes place. The vivacity of some of its places like Mathura, birth place of Lord Krishna and Vrindavan is truly spectacular to watch on this day.
In West Bengal, it is the festivity of good harvest brought by spring season that is Basant Utsav. There it is called by several names such as Dol Purnima, Dol Jatra, or the Swing-Festival. On this day, fast is kept by the elder most family member in every house for getting the blessings of Agnidev and Lord Krishna. When all rituals get over, he smears idol of Krishna with color (gulal) and offers gifts as sweets to both the Gods, Krishna as well as Agnidev.
Rajasthan people celebrate this in honor of immortal love story of Radha Krishna. Braj Mahotsav of this place is highly adored all over the world. People in multi colored attire sing and perform raslila that depicts Krishna Radha love play.
People of Delhi observe it for two day that chiefly involves bonfire or burning of Holika followed by playing colors. The jest or merriment of the festival peaks throughout the city. But one that is common in this festival is sharing of Holi gifts that mainly comprise colors, pichkaris or water guns, special treats like gujjia hampers, chocolates and dry fruit packs.
