Holi- A Multifaceted Festival of Asia

At present, people of India are busy preparing for Holi, the 2nd most celebrated festivals of the country. The celebration falls on Phalgun Purnima during spring months. 2011 Holi according to Hindu calender is going to be celebrated on 20th of March. This multifaceted festival is not just famous for its colors , mirth and intoxicating drinks, but for various Hindu mythological stories related with it. Some states like Uttar Pradesh, including other northern parts of the country celebrate it around Holika Prahlad incident while moving south, we see people commemorating Kamadeva legend on Holi.

In West Bengal that forms the eastern most part of the country, it is widely known as Basant Mahotsav. There it reveals the rejoice of natives for good fertility and plentiful harvest the season of spring brings along with. Similarly, in Rajasthan, which lies extreme west side of the country, its popularly known as Braj Mahotsav. The entire celebration over there reflects Radha Krishna's immortal love story.
