Resume is the most important tool in the hiring process; it highlights the candidate’s experience and skills. If a candidate has had more than three jobs in last four years, his resume should not be kept in shortlisted folder as it indicates that this candidate is a job-hopper.
Telephonic Interview is usually taken by the large scale companies rather than the small or medium sized companies. It can be held to refine the more suitable candidates as it can reduce the number of job candidates by about 20-25 percent.
Reaching Late at interview venue shows the tardiness and irresponsibility of a candidate. On the contrary, reaching at the right time or before the interview time notify the positive impression on the interviewer.
Application Form is given to those candidates who came for interview. It includes the brief introduction, experience and key skills of the candidate. This application form helps to scrutinize the number of suitable candidates.
Series of Tests is given to candidates before the interview to measure the prospective candidate’s problem solving ability. And for technical positions technical test should be taken to measure the technical skills.
This test also comprises the aptitude test which helps to assess the other hidden qualities of the employees.
The Interview which is the actual interview; by the time you are ready for it, you have reduced the resumes to 10% of total resumes. In the whole interview process for hiring the right people this is the most crucial part. A questionnaire is prepared before to ask the candidates. Here are some questions which can be asked:
•Tell me a little bit about yourself, your strengths; what can you contribute to our company?
•Tell about your weaknesses; how can you overcome of these?
•What was your job profile in your former company?
•Why you want to leave your current job?
•Technical terms mentioned in the resume can be asked.
•Tell me about the projects you handled in the last job.
•Will you work long hours?
•What is your salary expectation?
•What is your notice period and when can you join?
References should be obtained from the past employers, sometimes it is difficult but most of the time you are able to get valuable references. When you call the reference sources, you can tell them about yourselves and state that you are close to making hiring decision regarding a candidate. You then can ask about the candidate whether he worked for that company for the time period mentioned in the resume. Was the employee punctual? Etc.
