Helping you to increase the startup speed of Windows 7

Windows 7 is developed to offer the good performance but sometimes starts up very slowly. You can perform these steps to speed up its startup. Disable the extra applications launching at startup, manually set the Virtual Memory, and scan your computer for viruses.

Windows 7 has been designed to offer the best performance, attractive User Interface, and self-diagnosis at user end. Still most of the users are facing technical issues with it. In most cases, Windows 7 PC starts up very slowly even if the computer has the latest and optimum hardware configuration. Check the exact issue

1. Start the computer and see your clock to check how many minutes will computer take to load to desktop from pressing the power button.
2. Note the time taken between the first look of your desktop screen and being computer idle with all startup proceedings.

Inspecting the Computer Startup

Numerous applications are launched at computer startup, which results into the slow startup problem. You can have a look at the icons in the System Tray to check how many applications are loading with the Windows startup. Follow below steps to have a detailed look about them,

1. Go to the Start and type ‘msconfig’ in the search box.
2. Right click on the MSCOFIG option and select ‘Run as Administrator’. Enter the login credentials of Administrator user, if necessary.
3. Go to the Startup tab in System Configuration Utility. This will display all the applications, files, and drivers loading on your computer startup.
4. Please leave the items from Microsoft, your computer brand (Dell, HP, Sony, etc.), Antivirus, etc. If you don’t have the complete information about these items then you should take help of Microsoft Windows 7 Support instead of performing any hit & trial method.
5. Uncheck the unnecessary items. Please don’t uncheck any unknown item.
6. Click the Apply button and then click OK button.
7. Restart the computer to check its performance.
Please note if you uncheck the items in Startup tab in MSCOFIG then you’re making your computer to run in Selective Startup instead of recommended Normal Startup. You should be technical enough to delete these unchecked entries from System Registry to take your system back to the Normal Startup. Setting up the Virtual Memory

Virtual Memory is a system-fixed area on the hard drives, which is treated by Windows 7 as temporary memory to load functions and programs. By default, the amount of virtual memory is not set correctly. Follow below steps to set the Virtual Memory correctly,
1. Go to the Control Panel > System & Maintenance > System.
2. Point the mouse cursor to ‘Advanced System Settings’ at the left hand side panel and click it to open Advanced Settings.
3. Go to the ‘Advanced’ tab and click ‘Settings’ button under ‘Performance’.
4. Switch to ‘Advanced’ tab and hit ‘Change’ under ‘Virtual Memory’.
5. Uncheck ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’ box.
6. Click the [C] drive label and then click ‘Custom’ button.
7. You will see ‘Recommended Size’ on this dialog box. Enter this recommended value in the ‘Initial Size’ or ‘Minimum Size’ box.
8. Enter the 1.5 times of the ‘Recommended Size’ in the ‘Maximum Size’ box.
9. Click ‘Set’ button.
10. Click OK button.

Removing Virus Infections

1. Launch the installed security application – Antivirus, Internet Security, etc.
2. Update it to get the latest virus definitions.
3. Scan your computer for viruses and then clean detected infections.
