This is a good way to find a handyman that is local to your area and get an idea about the kind of services and prices that business charges. Many handymen are retired contractors who are just looking for a way to keep busy and use their skills and are capable of doing large jobs such as a bathroom remodel. Other handymen are just that, men or women who have the skills to repair a toilet, or a sink or hang a shelving unit for you but nothing more complex. Depending on what you need done or anticipate needing done you can usually locate someone who can fill the bill with just a little research on your part.
Once you find a service that you like, you should plan to do a brief interview to make sure he or she has the skills you are looking for and ask what kind of background they have. You should also find out how busy they are so you know how far out to call for a service to be done.
If your handyman passes your initial phone screening call invite them to come out and give you a bid on your job. Make sure the bid will be free and you won’t incur a charge for their time to give you a price. Most are glad to come out and give a price for no charge, just as contractors do.
If you do decide to hire, make sure you get the bid in writing so there is no future confusion regarding what will be done or the expected price for the job. If you’re planning a job that will involve electrical work or plumbing, you need to make sure yours has the skills to do the job, and of course you may need to have a permit to have the job done legally.
Once you find a handyman you can trust your future honey-do’s are only a phone call away from getting done.
