Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's Great Sacrifice for The Kashmiri Pandits

Meanwhile, the news of Aurangzeb's misdeeds, were reaching all corners of the country. The pace at which he was converting Hindus to Muslims at the tip of a sword was a cause of great concern. Temples were being demolished and mosques constructed in their place. Such intolerance for other religions has rarely been witnessed in any period of history.

In such disorderly atmosphere a group of Kashmiri Pandits visited the Guru at Anandpur, crying for help to save their religion. Anyone who refused to convert had no choice but to die. Guru Teg Bahadur was absorbed in deep thought to come out with a solution for the problem. At that moment, the young Gobind Singh Ji came in laughing and jumping in his playful mood. His state quickly shifted to that of great concern for the tension over his father's face and the crying pandits. He then asked his father, "What happened father, who are these people ? Why are they crying and why are you worried ?" Guru Ji explained the situation to the child Gobind. The child replied, "Then you must help them father", with great enthusiasm and force. Guru Teg Bahadur Ji sat thinking deeply again while the pandits started crying louder. The infant appealed to his father again, "Why don't you speak up father. These people must be helped."
Guru Ji replied, "It's not an easy task son. It would require the sacrifice of a very religious person."

"Who could be more religious than you father ?", replied Gobind Singh Ji in a flash.
"It would happen as you wish son", said the Guru. Then He glanced at the pandits and said, "Stop crying. Go to Aurangzeb and tell him that Teg Bahadur is our Guru. If you convert Him we all will convert readily." The pandits were comforted to a great extent.
