GURU TEGH BAHADUR JI : GURUSHIP AND THREAT TO LIFE

Sri Guru Hargobind Ji's grandson and Baba Gurditta's son Dheermal was still dreaming of becoming the Guru. He had the Guru Granth Sahib with him and by virtue of its possession, he claimed the right to Guru's seat. All his plans were shredded to pieces when the new Guru was discovered. Enraged by the proceedings, he sent his men who took all the money and offerings made to the Guru. A preacher named Shia, even fired a bullet to assassinate the Guru; but who could kill Him against His will. The bullet missed Him by a whisker. The looted objects and money were recovered by the Sikhs at a short distance. The Guru however returned everything and forgave the burglars, and even the man who tried to kill Him. Only a real Guru could have had such a grand heart. People began to pour in large numbers and the offerings began to grow magnanimously in volume.

GURU TEGH BAHADUR JI AT SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB

After sitting on the Guru's seat, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji started touring different areas to spread the word ofSikhism. After visiting Khadoor Sahib, Goindwal and Tarn Taran, He reached Amritsar. The Priests who looked after the Golden Temple closed its doors, fearing that the Guru was here to take control of the Gurdwara. Guru Teg Bahadur Ji had no such intention. He waited outside for some time, but when the doors remained shut He uttered, "Amritsariye, Andar Sariye", which meant that the people of Amritsar are burnt from inside. When a group of elderly ladies came to know about the incident, they were extremely worried. They followed the Guru meeting Him at Valla Sahib and offered their service with great warmth to the Guru. The pleased Guru uttered words of appreciation saying, "Ladies are blankets of God." The ladies were relieved to hear that.

The Guru finally reached Keeratpur. There He purchased some land, where the beautiful city of Anandpur Sahib stands today. Dhir Mal and some masands (preachers) tried to stop the development of this city. Dhir Mal even claimed heirship to the Guru's seat at Delhi, in the emperor's royal court. The Mughal emperor decided to keep his hands clean off the dispute. The city of Anandpur began to grow in size and stature and it was virtually flooded with people.
