Getting the Most from Leadership Training |
||||
Natural leaders get satisfaction in having their group win, rather than thriving on personal pursuits like the average person. True leaders are not a single-man show, so they focus on encouraging the best in each team member. With this attribute, a leader earns the group's trust and success is easily achieved.
These traits grow over time. New leaders can cause a rift with employees because the leader could be too "hands on," therefore, frustrating subordinates with too many reins and too much supervision. Personal problems may arise as the new leader's worth will be grossly reliant on how group members work and how team members think of their new leader.
In short, an efficient leader needs to inspire faith in his group and accept that his group's accomplishments are also his own.
The Substance: "How To Make The Move"
With a too-involved leader breathing down on their necks, subordinates might find it hard to perform well. For group members to be effective in what they do, they exercise a specific level of autonomy, with regards to the manner by which they do their tasks. If you're the leader, however, it's another story.
As opposed to your employees, your personal contribution to the job is less. A leader best encourages subordinates by being in the sidelines and staying behind the scene - never over-bearing. Employees find it frustrating to work with leaders who intervene with the project. A good should learn when to give up control.
Individuals work in individual ways - this is one thing a leader must accept and know. Let your team members do their job. Let them indulge their uniqueness. They'll give the project their full concentration if you motivate them. If your member feels that you are not behind him all the way, then it's more likely that he'll feel bad about himself and, thus, lead to half-hearted results.
Differences of opinions may lead to you and your team not meeting eye-to-eye on some decisions, making the transition to leadership difficult and frustrating. Arguments could arise. How to survive? The key is knowing how to create a balance and arrive at a compromise. A decision needs to be made, regardless if it makes everybody happy or not. Nobody ever said that being a leader is a piece of cake.
It is impossible to please everybody all of the time. It is important for the group's maximum interest to bond with fellow members, but they should always bear in mind that the mission, vision, and goal of the team is first priority. Regardless if the leader of the team wants it or not, the entire group can be placed into an arena where they are uncomfortable in.
Conflict is not something to be wary of. Always bear in mind to strengthen your decisions on the value of the idea, and not on the individual who gave it.
Leaders know they can't make people happy. People need to take ownership of their own joy. Even if the attitude of every subordinate is distracting, good leaders should learn to overlook it. Sometimes, the different self-interests of a subordinate may be in opposition with the interests of the team.
Excellent leaders try to underline on the team's interests and the goal of the group. Consequently, the strongest force behind a team is a leader who treats members with respect, while focusing on the objective in mind. Because it is a known fact that every man is unique, it's only expected that the dealing with each and every individual must be different.
Conclusion: "Gaining A Positive Outlook".
Those who are new to being a leader would find it helpful if they keep watch on their perspective as a leader. Leadership training, education, aids, and systems are very important. However, if things are not viewed evenly and in the correct and just manner, at that, then even the world's best leaders will find it difficult to change. You have to first look into your own capabilities as a leader.
You should create a plan regarding the factors which require change. Improve your abilities and seek a coach or mentor to help you. The progress you make must be recorded for future basis. Provide a little mind in viewing some parts of your behavior that you have not seed before. Don't take over a project if somebody is simply asking for your input. Be patient. Training to be a leader is a neverending endeavor. Be open about your objectives with employees. Positive change can occur with commitment and persistence.
