Your employees are important to your business. They are the reason that people will return to your business or not. They are generally who your customers will deal with each time that they come in. You may or may not realize how much that you do rely on them.

You also might want to do what you can to get more out of them. Because they do represent the face of your business you will want them to give their all.

It does help to let them know that they are appreciated. If they feel that what they do is noticed and that you care then they will be happier. People that are happier at work do perform better. If you think that you have been neglecting your staff you will want to do something a little special for them. You can call everyone in for a meeting at the end of the day and surprise them with dinner and prizes. Promotional hats and shirts are always nice.

Encouraging them to push harder will require further incentives but they are surely up to the challenge and knowing that there is something in it for them as well, will provide you with proven results. You can accomplish this by working together on goal setting and then let them know that if you achieve these goals there will be a reward. And let them know what the reward will be. This will cause them to become more motivated to achieve these goals.

You can give even more incentives to employees that are able to up-sell successfully and to those that can get referrals from current customers. You will find that referral business is usually a very good connection and they person referred will become a regular customer.

Instituting an overall sales goal for the entire year with a large reward at the end, like a special evening out or group trip can serve as further incentive to keep employees focused. Putting in place individual and group goals can help not only improve individual employee performance, but can also help to create a team effort as well. As the leader, put rewards in place and stick with them and you will find that this current year will be your most successful year yet.
