Image the smile on your girlfriend’s face when she opens her inbox to find an email from Matthew@JumpIntoMyArms.com for Bill@LonelyWithoutYou.net. Even if you have to tell her that you can’t visit her parents with her this weekend as planned because you’ve got to help out a friend who’s been lumbered with an extra ticket to football game; at least your email address tells her that she is really important to you.
Just imagine emailing your boyfriend to tell him your mother is visiting and she is going to be staying with you both for a week. You know he’s not going to be a happy about that, but at least he will have a smile on his face when you pop up in his inbox as Amy@CrazyAboutYou.com.
A personal email address makes your emails just that little bit more personal. We all know that emails just don’t get across the tone behind what we mean. We often write them in a hurry and use abbreviations, all of which can make them sound a bit flat or even harsh, which isn’t what we intended at all. I’m sure you’ve had experiences where your loved one has been upset with an email you’ve sent because what you tried to say just didn’t come across right on the screen. A personal email address won’t solve these problems but at least the address can be created to send the right message every time.
Perhaps you work away from home or your job keeps you away from your family for long hours. You can create an email address for your partner and children that will let them know you’re thinking of them even if your plane has been delayed another six hours. You could be sending the bad news cushioned with the personal email address of Dad@BigHugsAndKisses.net or Jean@iLoveULots.com.
Emails aren’t really the best way to have a meaningful conversation but sometimes it’s the most convenient way to send a quick message. Sometimes the true essence of what we mean or the emotion that we want to convey is lost somewhere in cyber space. At least your personalized email address can be a little reminder to your nearest and dearest that they really do mean the world to you. Emails are quick, convenient and can send messages that bridge the space between us in seconds, so use a personal email address to help make sure nothing is lost in translation.
