More than a cursory thought should be taken when determining which of the many styles of garage doors to use. Of course it is optimal for the choice to match the decor of the house but beyond that it should fit into the look and style of not only the home but the neighborhood as well. Particularly when the car park faces the street there is a need for curb appeal. There are several varieties currently popular and a few of the most common are outlined below.

Certainly the most popular style of the past several years is the carriage type. This style has a facade that makes it look like an old barn or an entrance to a carriage house at a country home. They create the illusion that they open out or slide to the side when in reality they roll or fold up above the car.
If the home being outfitted is built with a modern design there are a variety of contemporary designs that stray from the traditional. These garage doors often feature inlaid tempered glass or other decorative accents. They go beyond simple paneling and make what is often purely functional much more attractive. Also popular in this style are garage doors that are textured to look like stone or adobe. These fit in nicely with houses built of similar materials.

The most traditional and timeless design is the basic raised panel. These are what is seen on the majority of houses and are decorated with a series of raised rectangular or square accents. They are available in a variety of materials from wood, and steel to aluminum. This style compliments almost every style of home and as such has become the standard for new construction.

Of course there is no reason that a home needs to be outfitted with one of these styles of garage doors. Tastes and designs are constantly changing and evolving and there is no limit to what can be created. There are plenty of companies and designers that are able to build to suit. They can design different accents or windows and even modify existing parts to look better. Whether steel, wood or aluminum is chosen there are professionals who are willing and able to work with and accomplish a variety of looks. It is best however when having a custom design to have the fabricator leave it plain or prime it white or beige to facilitate painting it to match the rest of the house.

Regardless of the look or style of the building there are a variety of styles of garage doors to complete the look. A little work with a contractor and there is no doubt there is something out there or something that can be created to suit any need.
