The sport is estimated to earn South Africa as much as 200 million rand a year, while in the Us where the industry is full developed it generates 200$ million. In East Africa, Tanzania has allowed the sport and concessioned wildlife areas such as Loliondo to companies associated with high ranking people in the United Arab Emirates. It is believed that each hunter visiting Tanzania spends up to 100 times the average pent by a tourist who visits the country for wildlife viewing.
Twenty two other African countries allow the killing of animals for fun which interestingly has the tacit support of leading conservation organizations that argue that the sport helps to take better care of animals. But anti-hunting lobbyists say available statistics that paint a positive picture on the sport are a result of studies sponsored and popularized by Western lobby organizations that support hunting. The anti-hunting lobbyists also argue that many African countries Kenya included do not have the capacity to adequately monitor the activities of hunters. (Daily Nation March 07)
