Although, almost a topic for debate, there is no set rule as to which one is better i.e. there is no set rule to define as to whether Lotus Notes is better than Outlook or whether Outlook scores over Lotus Notes.
In a more frank and honest manner, we can simply put it as both the email clients: Lotus Notes and MS Outlook are equally important and beneficial and have their own clientage.
In the present scenario, both these email clients are often being switched from one to another for several reasons. In this article, we have taken up an issue that arises after Lotus Notes to MS Outlook migration.
Here’s the issue:
Let’s consider a real life scenario wherein you migrate from Lotus Notes to MS Outlook 2003. Once the migration is complete, you try to send an email message to an internal user. For this, when you enter the first letter of the recipient’s name in the To field, instead of the email address, junk characters are displayed in the To field. However, to your surprise, the email is being accurately and flawlessly delivered to the intended recipient.
The root cause behind the occurrence of the aforementioned problematic behavior is that wrong value is being used for the user’s LegacyExchangeDN attribute.
In order to resolve this issue, you need to execute the Admodify.net tool to change the LegacyExchangeDN attribute value for all users. In order to accomplish this, you need to perform the below mentioned steps:
1.Download the Admodify.net tool.
2.Uncompress the downloaded .zip files.
3.Double-click the Admodify.net exe file.
4.Click Modify Attributes.
5.In the Domain List box, click the domain entry corresponding to the affected Exchange computer’s domain.
6.In the Domain Controller List box, type the FQDN of the domain controller that contains the users who are affected.
7.Clear the below mentioned check boxes: Groups, Contacts, Public Folders, Show Container Only
8.Next to the Domain Controller List box, click the green arrow button.
9.Expand the domain object.
10.Click the container that contains the affected users.
11.Click Add to List, then click Select All, and then click the Next button.
12.Click the Custom tab.
13.Select Make a customized attribute modification check box.
14.In the Attribute Name box, type LegacyExchangeDN.
15.In the Attribute Value box, type the string value that is appropriate to your content.
16.Click Go.
By performing the aforementioned steps, you would be able to resolve the junk characters issue that crops up sometimes after Lotus Notes to PST conversion.
