One of the easiest ways you can help to cut down on the city’s air pollution is to find a carpool partner to share the ride with at least one day a week! Not only does carpooling help reduce air pollution, it can also:
• Save you money as you won’t have to purchase fuel everyday, on parking slips.
• Reduce insurance premiums by eliminating or limiting use of personal vehicle for daily commuting.
• Reduces stress.
• Helps to keep the air clean.
• Provide useable time for riders--read, sleep, work, and talk.
• Save you time as less vehicles on road means less traffic jams.
There are other easy ways to find carpool or vanpool partners:
Step 1: Find a carpool partner
• Check out some really good sites offering the facility to post free carpool Ad.
• You can contact co-workers and neighbors you know live near you.
• Talk to your employer’s Transportation Coordinator (TC) or Human Resource Department at work.
• Post a sign on bulletin boards at work.
Step 2: Meet your potential carpool partner.
• Set up a pre-carpool meeting at a neighborhood coffee shop or mutually agreeable location near your worksites.
• Take some time to get to know your potential carpool partner(s). Finding a compatible carpool partner is not unlike meeting a blind date for the first time. Remember, first impressions count! Before you move to steps 3 – 5, determine that you will feel comfortable commuting to and from work with that person.
• There’s no obligation to carpool with the first person you meet! If you don’t feel comfortable with potential partner number one, go back to your match list and contact another person. ShareTheRide.com will contact you via e-mail as new matches become available.
Step 3: Check who’s got the car.
• Do car sharing in your vehicle.
• Share your carpool partner’s car
• Share the cost.
• Use your & his car alternately
Step 4: Establish some rules
• Decide on some mutual rules to be followed by carpool partners which are suitable to both.
If nothing works out to get a carpool partner
• Print and Post this sign on your bulletin board:
Carpoolers Wanted!!!
