Smooth gleam effects.
The first and perhaps most increasingly popular final touch to add into postcard designs today are the smooth and gleam effects. Just like some of the new websites today, many graphic designers for postcard printing are applying nice gleam effects that make color postcards look more glossy and smooth. It is all about adjusting the lighting values and the shadow values of the design elements so that they look like they are glossy as they gleam in the light. This can be applicable to many kinds of design themes, so it should definitely be the first that you should try out.
Texture styles.
The next finishing touch that you may want to use for your color postcards are texture styles. It is possible to add a texture effect on the cover image of your custom postcards. From special material texture filters such as canvass, satin or even stone and brick, to more creative filters such as paint, sketch and smudge styles, there are plenty of nice special effects that you can use for the cover. This can totally increase the impact and visibility of your postcards, making it a more complete and powerful custom postcard design.
Vibrant color effects.
Now, sometimes, your postcard covers just need that little oomph in terms of color. That is why a nice simple final touch to your design is to basically enhance the postcard’s cover a bit. The newest version of Adobe Photoshop lets you do this by having color Vibrancy settings in an image. However, for other image editing applications, you can easily get a vibrant color effect by simply adjusting brightness and contrast values, as well as activating auto color correction features. Trust me, this will add a whole new kind of energy and impact to your color postcards.
Soft image filters.
You might also like to add a few soft image filters in your postcard designs as a final design touch. Soft image filters are basically those design filters that not only brightens postcard images for a more intense effect, but they also make the sharp lines and pixels of an image fuzzier for that softer effect. This adds a more emotional and “kinder” aura to your designs making it look more dreamlike and comfortable. So if your theme is more serene, soft and sweet, you might want to go for soft image filters.
Frames and borders.
Lastly, one very basic and still useful final design effect are frames and borders. There is nothing like a classic border, or a simple white space frame around a color postcard that really gives it a final and complete look. Borders add order and finality to a design that helps it look more professional, formal and important. So if your design can merit a border or frame, I would highly recommend it as a finish touch.
So those are the different finishing or final touches that you can add on to your postcard designs to make things look more complete and impactful. Hopefully you can use these design techniques easily in your custom postcards.
