Battery is an important aspect of cordless phones and it is due to the battery only that one can efficiently use the cordless phones. Batteries of the cordless phone are made up of Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride or Lithium Ion, each having its own unique characteristics. Nickel Metal Hydride batteries offer higher energy densities and it approximately delivers twice the capacity of Nickel Cadmium. Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are also less prone to malfunction of memory effect that reduces the efficiency of the batteries.

Recently Lithium Ion has become the standard for portable power as it offers same energy as Nickel Metal Hydride batteries and weighs almost 35% less. Above all, the Nickel Metal Hydride batteries and Lithium Ion batteries do not contain heavy metals and toxic materials such as mercury and cadmium and are thus environment friendly.

These batteries also differ in their memory effect. Nickel cadmium batteries have virtual memory that forces them to function at the same level of performance that it gave before recharging. Thus it is important to note that this battery should be completely discharged before recharging it in order to have its full efficiency.
