Everything Happens Now

Several years ago I was in an Astronomy class listening to the professor speaking about galaxies and black holes... when it hit me like a ton of bricks that "everything is happening now."

That simple observation was so mind boggling to me at that time, I winded up failing the class because immediately thereafter, I couldn't get myself to concentrate on anything else but this awesome revelation.

For a long time, I felt like an idiot not for having failed the class, but for having not been aware of this...

"Duh!," I thought, "isn't it obvious that everything happens now?"

Still, it took me years to actually begin to experience this perspective as a day to day reality.

I created a placard on my wall saying "One day soon, through vast contributions towards myself and others, I will see through the illusion of time..." and I forget the rest because I took it down from my wall a couple of years ago while redecorating.

Anyway, the fact of the matter is that, your life is a reflection of your understanding of time.

Regardless of your of beliefs, would it make sense to you if I said that whatever experience you want can not be had at any future point, but now?

It might not be so obvious to you, because the concept of time can make it appear that what you want can only occur in the future.

'You'll have more of what you don't have enough of now at some future point in time,' you think...

...because then the conditions surrounding you will have improved.

There are many teachings about the nature of time, nevertheless, much of it still fails to make experiential sense to us... even now, after we've entered into the 21st century.

No wonder life can seem not to make sense.

How could it.... if we are entering a new century, with-out the right tools, particularly an understanding of time that surpasses our intellect?

There are certain common sense concepts and understandings that are fundamental to navigating yourself in the world today.

The concept of time is only one such understanding.

I wish you well,
