The total amount of unclaimed tax refunds owed to 1.8 million Americans is in excess of $2.2 billion dollars. This figure is constantly rising. The silliest thing is that this money is due because millions of Americans have forgotten to file their tax returns for the year 2003. This is an unacceptable state of affairs. If any individual wants to receive the unclaimed tax refund check for the year 2003, he or she will have to file the tax return for the year 2003. Further, this must be done very quickly as the last date for doing so is April 17, 2007. The reason why I stress on the date is that this is the date on which the grace period allowed by law comes to an end. The law allows a grace period of three years to any and every individual to file his or her return. The limit of three years ends on 17th April 2007. If return is not filed as on this date, the unclaimed tax refund check shall be forfeited to the government.

This problem occurs because people do not take their tax obligations seriously. They do not file their tax return despite the fact that money has been deducted from the wages of the individuals. The deduction is for covering the tax liability in advance. However, this money is never recovered when the tax liability is less than the amount that has been deducted. Tax assesses do not file returns when no tax is payable.

However, they ought to file returns on this date because this is the only manner in which the money that has been deducted shall be refunded to them.

For the year 2003, Earned income tax credits were available for an unmarried person who earned less than $11,230 and who did not have any children. Earned income tax credits were available for a person with one child and who earned less than $29,666. Earned income tax credits were available for a person who had two or more than two kids and who had earned less than $33,692. This aspect is ignored or forgotten with dangerous consequences. File the returns and complete the formalities to solve the problem and claim your money.

The Internal Revenue Service processes all request for refunds and sends the same after it receives the request in the proper form. It is imperative that the proper form be filled. Fill only Form 1040 or Form 1040A or Form 1040EZ.
