Enhance Your Décor with Drapes and Sheer Curtains

Enhance the décor of your home with drapes and sheer curtains. Besides adorning your windows, they also protect your home from dust and the glare of the sun while providing you with privacy.

Drapes are generally constructed from heavyweight, lined, floor-length fabric which is hung on a rod with the help of hooks. Sheer curtains, on the other hand, are lightweight, unlined fabric of varying length which is attached to the rod with the help of rings, grommets, tabs or rod pockets.

Select drapes that match your sense of style and update the décor of your home. Your fabric and color choice will dictate the tone of the room. Window treatments in damask, silk and tapestry are usually lined in cotton to create a delicate shimmering effect and allow subtle light filtering. A beaded drape would infuse color and a playful sparkle to your windows. You can even dress up furniture with throw pillows accented with the same beaded edging to coordinate your décor. Frame windows with drapes that can be drawn to either side of the window or with drapes that have two or four panels. A pinch pleated drape works well with traditional or formal décor. For homes which have been designed with a minimalist style, these drapes can serve as an instant update.

Sheer curtains are suitable for rooms that need more light but want protection against the sun’s rays and dust. Soft white sheers can be used as a backing for diffusing the light if paired with another drape either made of sheer fabric or even a thicker fabric. They can be bunched at the sides with a sash or tie with tassels for a decorative effect. Hang curtains of lace, cotton, nylon, silk, voile, tulle or batiste for an added air of romance.

If you’re on the lookout for vintage style, window sheers with a barely-there embroidered pattern would give the room an airy feel. Another way of dressing up your living room or bedroom windows is by choosing subtly-textured cotton canvas panels. They can be used as hourglass panels which have curtain rods, both on the top and at the bottom of the window panels with a satin sash in the middle. When this sash is tied, it will pull the panels into an hourglass shape which will give your room a distinctive look.

With the right selection of window treatments, you can add beauty to your home.
