The essential goal of emergency first aid is to care for the immediate medical needs of a wounded person and to save their life if feasible. A vast group of people are impacted by accidents each twelve months and many of these people are seriously injured or end up dead. However, many individuals could be rescued if more people would train themselves on emergency first aid.

Emergency medical triage is a fundamental skill that puts the injured individual in a secure condition before emergency services arrive. You do not need to have a medical education to utilize the basic principles of this skill, however, you do need the desire to learn and apply. It often comes down to utilizing elementary decision making skills that will have a beneficial effect on the individual you are caring for.

When first aid & emergency procedures are applied without delay it can make the difference between someone recovering from their distressing experience, having to deal with a lasting injury or meeting death.

As already noted, the basics of emergency medical treatment can change an individual's outcome positively but it is likewise incredibly important to have the correct first aid materials and supplies.

There are many compromises that can be applied because the perfect materials will not always be accessible, but if you do have the proper equipment the process will be far easier. Keeping the right supplies and materials readily available could also, in some cases, define whether the person you are treating lives or dies.

There are many different levels of emergency first aid training and intervention. Minor problems include someone with perhaps a small scratch which can be treated with an antibacterial spray and bandage. The key objective is to make sure that open wounds are clear and do not have any contaminants which can spread infection.

An open fractured limb may be treated on the spot by preventing blood loss and usually is the result of an accident. In such a case, the objective of emergency medical procedures should be to stabilize the victim's vital signs until emergency personnel arrive. Making sure the patient stays awake by asking them questions can ease the situation. Ask them questions regarding what is hurting or on basics such as their name, address, etc. This information can be of huge value to physicians.

Sometimes, you could come in contact with someone in cardiac arrest in which case cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is involved. If you have access to a CPR mouth barrier the procedure can be much less problematic and you will be shielded from any biological viral transmission.

An added bonus of obtaining these skills, materials and equipment is knowing that you are in control of the situation.

If you have ever witnessed an emergency and were not sure of what to do, imagine the difference it would make and the lives which could be saved. Don't underestimate the importance of these skills.

Next time you sense the need to learn emergency first aid, don't procrastinate. Bite the bullet now and make it your goal to learn emergency triage in depth.
