Microsoft Exchange Server delivers a messaging system, which addresses all of the business needs such as security, speed and availability. Exchange Server creates a separate mailbox for every user, which can be accessed through Microsoft Outlook. But in some cases, the Exchange Server database may get damaged and it does not allow you to access data, send or receive emails, create backup and perform any other operation on the database. It results into serious data loss situations and required Exchange Recovery to be sorted out.

In a practical situation, when you try to access your mailbox from the Exchange Server, the operation may not complete and you might find the following Event ID in Application Event Log of Exchange Server:

Source: ESE
Category: Database Corruption
Type: Error
Event ID: 447
User: N/A
Computer: VOYAGER
Description: Information

Store (2624) A bad page link (error -338) has been detected in a B-Tree (Object Id: 2283, Pgno Root: 213598) of database
E:\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\priv1.edb (3253654 => 3304833, 3253654).

In such situations, you can send plain mails using Microsoft Outlook but can not access anything from the database. If you attach any file to the mail, Outlook gives following error message:

“The operation failed.”

In such situations, you are required to carry out Exchange Repair by sorting out this issue. If you have recent and complete backup of your database, restore data from it.

As we discussed above, the problem occurs due to corruption to the Exchange Server Database (EDB file). Corruption could be the result of virus infection, missing file objects, system crash, improper system shutdown, application malfunction and more. In these circumstances, you are required to repair and restore the database to gain access of your valuable and mission critical data.

You can repair and restore the database using powerful and advanced third party tools, known as Exchange Recovery software.

These software are powerful enough to methodically scan the damaged EDB file using efficient scanning algorithms and retrieve all of the Exchange Server mailboxes and their objects.
