Today, sheets are available with their thread count ranging from 80 to 1200. Though, higher thread count means higher quality, even 200 is considered to be of good quality, while sheets of thread count 400 and above are luxuriously soft. Generally, cotton is the most popular fabric that is used for bed sheets. Egyptian or Pima cotton are the two varieties of cotton that have high thread count, are softer and more lustrous, and more durable and less prone to shrinkage. There are also cotton blends available and other materials like silk and satin, which you can choose from depending on your preferences and décor.

Fitted sheets are a good option over flat sheets, as some have elastic anchor bands around the perimeter of the sheet and around the corner pockets. It holds the sheet firmly in place over any mattress size and provides you with a smooth sleeping surface. When selecting the ideal bed sheets, measure from the bottom edge of the mattress to its highest point to calculate your mattress pocket depth. This will help you if you would prefer fitted sheets. Also, it makes sure that you can purchase coordinating bedding if needed and a mattress pad.

When selecting comforters, the factors to be considered are similar to sheets, like thread count and type of material. Like sheets, comforters are also available in standard sizes of twin, double, queen, king and California king. The fill of a comforter is an important aspect and will vary depending on the average temperature of the region you live in. If you live in the far north where the winds are chilly, down-filled comforters would be a good choice. For the more humid regions of the south, a cotton or synthetic fill will be a better alternative, as they would also be mildew-resistant.

Besides these factors, choose bedding in colors, patterns and textures that add to the style quotient of your home and you will have bedding that is stylish and comfortable.
