USCIS recently launched re-designed documents for EAD and citizenship certificate. This is a part of the ongoing measures to enhance the effectiveness of the immigration system to combat fraud.

Reason for the Re-designed documents to come into effect

USCIS has always made it a point to constantly upgrade its services and products, so as to tackle the growing security threats. It frequently incorporates all the latest technological findings in its products like the Green card, citizenship certificate, EAD etc. This is the reason why the USCIS always insists its applicants to go for a periodic renewal of their Green Cards. This is also the reason why one should constantly follow the updates of the USCIS.

Another reason is to tackle identity frauds that happen greatly. Many people try to get employment or an immigration benefit with an ingenious but a fake document. There have been many instances when such kind of fraudulence has gone undetected.

On this context, the director of the USCIS Alejandro Mayorkas recently announced the launch of the re-designed documents for the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) and Certificate of Citizenship. This measure is viewed as a part of the USCIS’s initiative to improve the immigration system. They want it enhanced in a way as that it will combat counterfeiting, tampering and pave way for easy authentication. USCIS estimates that at least more than a million people will get these re-designed documents by nest year.

Features of the re-designed documents

Employment Authorization Document (EAD)

This is a very important document that is required by an immigrant to become eligible for work in the US. If the immigrant is neither a legal permanent resident nor a US citizen, then it becomes all the more important for him/her to be in possession of this EAD. This is the ticket for getting employment in the US. The re-designed document of EAD ha the following features
•The Case number (Case receipt number) is included in the front of the card
•Card number is also listed on the front of the card. It indicates the Alien Registration number , but without the initial ‘A’
•The card components have several layers with fine-line artwork that will definitely be very hard to reproduce.
•Integration of the personalized features along with the card design
This re-designed document is the result of the joint efforts between the USCIS and forensic Document Laboratory of the ICE.

Citizenship Certificate

This document is the proof of a person’s US citizenship status. This certificate is issued when a person files his/her citizenship application based on his/her US citizen parents. The individual can apply for a US passport and other immigration benefits only in the possession of this certificate. The re-designed document has the following features

•Digitized signature of approval
•The paper of the certificate has watermark within it now with a multi-color inked background.
•Highly improvised printing method that is tamper and fraud resistant than the previous versions.
•Re-designed document consumes less labor, has less human errors and finally more secure.
