Dressing Up A Rectangle Body |
||||

First step in buying clothes is determining what type of body you have, and what clothes will be more flattering for your body. Rectangle shaped body is probably one of the hardest body to shop for, but if you follow some simple basic guidelines, you will look your very best. |

When choosing tops, look for tops that are cut below the collarbone. This will help to create the illusion of a longer neck and torso. Ruffles or lace along the bust line can make that area appear larger. Also, shirts with front pockets can add the look of a fuller bust. Adding a necktie to your outfit will make your waist look smaller. A very feminine blousy top combined with a belt will make you look much curvier than you actually are. Puffy, romantic sleeves can soften the look of a rectangle body type. Full shirts that slightly cinch at the waist are also a good choice. Women with rectangular body types should avoid "boxy" jackets as they tend to only accentuate your already boxy form.
Rectangle body types tend to have large, muscular thighs. Choose pants that have a wide opening at the ankle. This will help diminish the look of large thighs. Do not cuff your jeans as this can tend to make your legs look rather stumpy. You can lengthen your appearance by teaming a pair of dark pants with matching high heels with a pointed toe. Skinny jeans and leggings should be avoided if you do not want to emphasize the size of your thighs.
A-line skirts are a very good choice for rectangle body types. They will skim the areas that you want to camouflage instead of accentuating them. A feminine peasant type skirt with detailing such as lace at the hem can be a very flattering look for your body type. If you find your legs to be one of your better features (as is the case for many with a rectangle body type), the lace at the hem will draw the eye to that area. If you have small ankles, a pair of ankle strap shoes with a thin heel will be quite flattering.
No matter what your body type, knowing the tricks of the fashion trade will help you look your very best. All women have "problem" areas and knowing how to dress in a way that takes attention away from those areas can make shopping a much more pleasant and less frustrating endeavor.
