Dos and Don’ts of Catalog Copy Writing |

Writing for catalog printing is never easy. In fact, it is not just listing all your products and services. You also have to consider that you need to convince your target clients of your products’ worth, enough for them to buy from your print catalogs. |

So before you start creating your “art” and painting your catalog printing with lots and lots of words, consider these dos and don’ts first:
Do write an eye-catching headline –
It starts with your headline. A snappy one at that will always get you the attention you need even if you are constrained by the space provided in your print catalogs. But do not overdo it either. A couple of words will do the trick.
Do not put your product description in the headline –
You have enough space inside your full color catalog for that. Your target clients would open your catalog printing anyway and get more of the details inside.
Do not give equal attention to your pages –
Your products are definitely not created equal. There are those that sell best, and there are those that do not. So do not split your pages into equal parts. Give more space for the bestsellers and leave lesser-selling items at the back.
Do provide just the facts –
Provide as complete a product description as possible. Make sure that the sizes, colors, and materials are exact in their specifications. Write a clear but still concise description of each product and service – enough to help your target clients decide whether to buy your product or not. At the end of your description, your readers should already be able to make a decision, hopefully, in your favor.
Do tell your sales pitch –
Your catalog printing first and foremost, is a marketing tool; hence, it should be able to promote your products and services. So use your selling pitch and market your way to your target client’s purchasing mood.
Do not bury your phone number –
Or even your contact information at that. The basic idea to this exercise is to get your target clients to call you ASAP to order from your color print catalog. It is sad but it is true. Many opportunities to sell were lost just because target clients find it hard to scour through the whole catalog just so they could get the number where they can order. Do not annoy your readers. Just make sure to have your phone numbers in every page of your print catalog.
Do include discounts and freebies –
Print catalogs are quite popular not just because of the products and services listed, but more particularly of the discounts and freebies that target clients will get when they order.
And lastly, do provide enough space for your clients to write their information, and do not forget to write a step-by-step instruction to fill out your order form. Add a business reply envelope while you are at it. Making it easier for your target clients to order from you means better ROIs for your business.
