Don't Quit Too Soon

Use marketing methods that suit your style. Employ them regularly and watch your business grow.

I recently quit an MLM business because I was so uncomfortable with the marketing methods. What I didn’t realize though, was that I did not have to use those methods. The methods that I was so uneasy with were all offline methods, and they just didn’t suit my style.

I was actually embarrassed to drive around town with big magnets on my car advertising my business. I also did not like leaving my business catalogs in places where I do business. In addition, I was not about to start up a conversation with a stranger in the grocery store. That was another one of the methods that my company recommended.

I loved the company and its products, was very impressed with the management team, and my sponsor was very helpful. However, because I was so unhappy with what I thought was expected of me in order to build my business, I just gave up and quit.

Now, I know that many of you probably think I am crazy for being unwilling to use some of those methods. Some of you use each and every one of them with ease. That is great, but it is just not for me.

The point that I want to make is that with almost any MLM (or any other business, for that matter), you can decide exactly how you want to build your business. I personally prefer using online methods, such as article writing, placing ads (both free and paid), purchasing leads which are specific to my business, posting in forums, and mentioning my business in my email signature.

Look closely at all the options available for marketing your business before you decide that the business is not for you. I made the mistake of thinking that the business I had chosen was flawed. In reality, it was my thinking that was flawed. I eventually went back to my original MLM company and began to do things my way.

I am much happier now that I have figured out how I want to run my business. The company training was not to blame. It is very extensive. I simply thought that I had to try ALL the marketing methods in order to build my business. The truth is, you should find three or four methods that suit you.

Once you do, you should decide which activities should be done daily, weekly, monthly, etc. Stay on track with your regularly scheduled marketing methods, and after awhile you will begin to see the results of your efforts. For example, I try to post in a couple of online forums daily, write at least one article per month, purchase a set number of leads each month, etc.

These business-building methods do not produce results quickly, so you must decide to be extremely patient and persistent. The key is maintaining a regular schedule with each method, and to “keep on keeping on”. Never give up. I know of so many people making great incomes who started slowly at first, but who are so glad that they never gave up.

The real secret to MLM success is to do things “your way”. Find the marketing methods that you enjoy and employ them consistently. Never let anyone tell you that you are missing the boat if you don’t do this or that. Only “you” know what works for you. You know your style better than anyone else. When your business methods suit you, then you will enjoy the journey of building your own business.
