The U.S government redesigns the banknotes in order to prevent counterfeit money from circulating on the market. In the last part of design, the new 100 currency is scheduled to circulate on April 21 in the market. In the redesign, the most noteworthy point is that new color is printed on the currency, for the sake of design purposes rather than aesthetic requirement. Using high-powered microscope, we will have a closely intimate contact with latest designs of currency to find out a lot of overlooked details.

Portrait of president
The portrait of president on the real money is extremely realistic and completely distinct from the background patterns, while the portrait on the counterfeit note appears to lack vitality and is much more graphic as well some minors can not be seen in the vague background.

Thin line printing and micro-printing
There are very thin stripes at the back of portrait side, which is designed to make money more difficult to be copied. You can take a note of “USA FIFTY UAS 50” on the 50 dollars currency. Around the portrait, micro-printing can also be seen, for example, President Grant’s collar is printed with “United States of America” on the 50 dollar bill. However, for the naked eyes, these characters look just like a line not clear words.

Fed and Treasury Seal
On the real money, the sawtooth-shaped seal of the Federal Reserve and the Treasury is clearly defined, while it appears to be uneven, blunt and incomplete in the fake notes.

Border
The fine lines printed on the border of real banknotes is clear and continuous, while the ones on the counterfeit currency are unclear. In addition, some micro-printed words that can be seen on the border of real money are hardly found by naked eyes, so these words are very difficult to be imitated.

Paper
The banknote paper is implanted by tiny red and blue fibers, but usually these fibers are printed in the counterfeit money rather than to be embedded if you check it carefully.

The color shifting ink
If you pick up the new series banknotes (except for 5 dollars) and tilt back and forth about, you will find that the color of these figures printed at the bottom right corner gets from black to green and then from green to again. However, counterfeit notes usually mix these inks in order to produce flash and metallic effect, but the color will not change.

Serial number
The serial numbers on the banknotes have unique fonts, with each number evenly distributed. The colors of these numbers are the same with that of Treasury seal, while the colors on the fake money are different. They are too shallow.

Watermark
You will clearly see the watermark at both sides of banknotes if you put the new printed money under the light. Sometimes you can see watermark on the counterfeit money, but the mercury is very different. Some counterfeit currency is produced by bleached and small denomination banknotes, so the watermark on them dose not match that of portrait. For example, if a 5 dollar bill is bleached and reprinted as a 100 dollar bill, it will present Franklin’s portrait, but Lincoln’s face is clearly printed on the watermark.

Security line
If you get the notes in the light, you will see the security line, and the thread runs through the up and down on the front if the banknotes. The security line is on the right side of portrait for 10 dollar bill, and on the left side of portrait for 5 and 100 dollar bill.

UV light
Although some “high-level” counterfeit money seems to have a real security thread, there is another simple way to identify it. The real notes can light if placed in the UN lights, blue for 5 dollar bill, orange for 10 dollar, green for 20 dollar, yellow for 50 dollar and red for 100 dollar bill.

Although there are so many identification measures, the Federal Economic Intelligence Bureau staffs say that the best way is to feel between the fake one and real one, comparing their feeling and texture.
