1. Writing for yourself, not for the employer
The first most common mistake that you can commit is to write the resume as if it is for you to read. That’s not sensible at all! Your resume is about you but not for you, what’s the point in sending it out then. Write in a way that would impress the employer when reading, mention whatever the employer wants to see there on your resume. He is not pretty much concerned about your goals and objectives so do not waste too much time on that. The employer wants to see your professional experience, qualifications and skills in your resume. Therefore, arrange them in a proper manner so that they look good when displayed on the employer’s screen.
2. Not writing a career summary
Another mistake that candidates often make is that they waste time in writing career objectives, goal and ambitions right in the beginning of the resume. The employer, most of the times, is least interested in your career objectives and goals. He is mainly interested in learning about you professional experience, internships (if any), final projects, professional training and skills. So the best thing for you is to write a career summary right at the top, instead of writing objectives and goals. This allows the employer to focus more on your experience than on your goals.
3. Not proofreading the Resume
You can make typing as well as grammatical errors while writing a resume and you may not even notice those before sending the resume. When the employer sees such a resume, he would throw it away assuming that you can not even present yourself properly so what’s the point in considering for a position. Therefore, you should always proofread your resume after writing it. It is always good to get it checked with a second person as well.
4. Telling a lie
You should never tell a lie about yourself when writing a resume not only because it is a business sin but also because it won’t help you much. Your exaggeration and beautification will not impress the employer at all. Also, it is a small world and people working in the same industry often know each other. So if you lie about your age, work experience or qualification, they do get to know it sooner or later. So avoid lying when writing a resume.
5. Using an unimpressive style
The style of your resume can leave an ever lasting impression on the employer’s mind. The employer develops an image of your personality and character by looking at your resume. If written in an unimpressive style, your resume will loose the value of the content as well.

Your resume should visually appeal to the employer; use fonts that are easy to read and are not fancy, use bullets and subheading, leave plenty of white space in between, always use black color.
